About me
Sheylda is a proud Latina from Puerto Rico and the mother of two boys. She started her studies at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez and later obtained her BS in biology from the University of Central Florida. Her graduate studies focused on research in the ecology of wetland birds obtaining her PhD in environmental resource conservation and management from Ana G. Mendez University. She has managed the Mosaics in Science Internship Program for Environment for the Americas since 2018 and is well known by the National Park Service leadership for her trajectory. Dr. Díaz is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Science and Technology at the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce and works with her students in the conservation genomics of Caribbean birds. When not looking for birds, you can find her participating in a 5K to help raise awareness for animal and humane causes.
